Flight cancellation help — refund or credit, explained first

Whether you get cash back or a travel credit depends on your fare, timing, and who cancels. We walk you through your actual options before you make an irreversible decision.

Independent service notice

Flights Cheap Fare is an independent travel agency — not an airline and not affiliated with any airline. Any service fee we charge is disclosed before you pay.

Your rights on every U.S. airline

Under U.S. DOT rules you can cancel any ticket within 24 hours of booking for a full refund (when departure is 7+ days away), and you are owed a cash refund — not just credit — when the airline cancels or significantly changes your flight.

What you get back when you cancel

Cancellation rules by airline

Main and First fares can be canceled without a fee for a credit or refund by fare rules.

Cancellation follows the same structure — free on premium bundles, possible charges on the lowest fares depending on route and timing.

Frontier Airlines

Most fares can be canceled for a travel credit; premium bundles include free cancellation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cancel a flight and get my money back?

Within 24 hours of booking (departure 7+ days away): yes, full refund on any U.S. airline. After that, refundable fares get refunds; non-refundable fares usually get a travel credit; basic economy may forfeit value or pay a charge.

What if the airline cancels my flight?

U.S. DOT rules entitle you to a full cash refund to your original payment method — you never have to accept a credit or rebooking for an airline-canceled flight.

Do travel credits expire?

Usually yes — commonly 12 months from the original booking date, though policies vary by airline. We track expiration dates on bookings made with us.

Does Flights Cheap Fare charge to cancel my flight?

If we process an assisted cancellation, our service fee is disclosed before you approve it. If the airline offers the same cancellation free online, we tell you that first.
